For six decades, Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores has been more than just a pit stop for weary travelers—it’s been a trusted companion on the open road. From its humble beginnings to becoming a nationwide network, Love’s has woven itself into the fabric of American travel. As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, join us in reflecting on the legacy, community impact, and service that define the business.
From A Single Station
In January 1964, Tom Love and his wife Judy embarked on a journey that would shape the landscape of American travel. With a mere $5,000, they leased an abandoned service station in Watonga, Oklahoma, about an hour northwest of Oklahoma City. Tom, a former Marine and college football standout, had a vision: to create a self-service gas station that would cater to travelers on the open road.
That modest gas station marked the birth of Love’s Travel Stops. Tom and Judy named their company Musket Corporation. Little did they know that their hard work and dedication would pave the way for a nationwide network of travel centers. Over the years, Love’s expanded, innovated, and became a trusted companion for weary travelers across the United States.
Innovation and Adaptation
Over the years, Love’s has continually adjusted to meet travelers’ evolving needs. From adding restaurant and fresh food options to total truck care solutions and alternative fuels, their commitment to innovation remains unwavering.
Now, Love’s has grown into a powerhouse, including subsidiaries like Trillium Energy Solutions, Gemini, and Speedco. In 2023, Love’s opened four new locations in Indiana, Mississippi, New York, and California. As of 2024, Love’s operates 644 stops throughout the United States.
A Focus on People
Love’s core values emphasize treating team members like family. This philosophy has remained constant, contributing to their success. Their commitment to caring for customers, partners, and employees differentiates Love’s from their competitors. Recently, they were ranked #1 for “Work Wellbeing in the US” by Indeed.

Their RV network is expanding with 30 new RV locations and 1,000 hookups, bringing the total to over 1,300 hookups nationwide.
