Award-Winning Morris Builders Celebrates 25 Years
The ups and downs of the housing market have made even the most stable of businesses wince. Yet Kirk Morris and his team of remodeling experts at Morris Builders have not only weathered these storms, but emerged with a sterling 25-year reputation. As the award-winning home remodeling contractor serving the Grand Rapids, Michigan area continues to expand, Morris Builders credits its success to strong principles that have anchored it in the community.
In the Family
A deep-rooted passion for building underscores any Morris Builders project. Founder Kirk Morris says he knew building was in his blood by learning from his father and grandfather, who were both involved in construction. After working with a custom furniture company on Frank Lloyd Wright reproductions, Morris struck out on his own in 1985, founding Morris Builders. His wife, Joy, soon became co-owner and sales consultant. Over the years, the husband-and-wife team transformed Morris Builders from a residential construction business to one of West Michigan’s most sought-after remodelers.
Creative, Detailed, Award Winning Remodeling
As Morris Builders grew, it developed a reputation for producing unique, high-quality work, from basement remodeling or family room additions to outdoor kitchens. “Grand Rapids households often call us on the recommendation of other satisfied customers,” Morris said. “We take a lot of pride in our creative design and detailed workmanship.” Their efforts have resulted in numerous awards, including the Chrysalis Award and five Remodeler of the Year Awards.
Growing with the Times: Green Remodeling and Aging in Place
Morris also credits the company’s growth with its responsiveness to the times. “As the baby boomers get older, they are looking for aging-in-place solutions,” he said. “As Certified Aging-In-Place Specialists (CAPS), we specialize in creative problem solving to help people remain mobile in their homes.” As more customers began to demand non-toxic, energy-efficient building materials, Morris Builders responded to the green remodeling demand by earning their Certified Green Professional certification in 2008.
The Extra Mile
But the most important factor in his business’ success, Morris believes, is a personal commitment to customer service. “We truly strive to go the extra mile in all aspects of our work,” he explained. “If an issue arises, we make an in-person house call to resolve it. A kitchen remodel or bathroom remodeling project can be especially disruptive to one’s lifestyle. We understand that and want our customers to have an exceptional experience throughout the entire remodeling process.”
Building a Legacy
As Morris Builders celebrates 25 years of home remodeling, it also aims to build a long-term legacy in the community. Regular volunteering is a family—and company—value, from participating in local parades to donating time and resources to charitable organizations and days of service.
“As we grow, we’re putting down roots,” Morris says. “Morris Builders grew because of the strong roots already put in place by our family and community supporters. Our strength as a business lies in our ability to do the same for others.”
