Initially focused on spreading the gospel, the mission evolved to address the pressing needs of the community, especially those struggling with addiction.Milestones and ImpactOver the years, Guiding Light has expanded its services to include Bible classes, meals for the hungry, youth programs, and support for families. One of its most significant contributions is the development of the Guiding Light Recovery program, which provides comprehensive treatment for those battling drug and alcohol addiction.In 2023, Guiding Light opened its first women’s sobriety houses, Esther’s House and Ruth’s House. These homes provide a place for women to overcome addiction through the Women’s Recovery program. The program takes a holistic approach to recovery, including detoxification, counseling, life skills training, and spiritual support.By emphasizing personal growth, responsibility, and accountability, Guiding Light helps individuals reclaim their lives and reintegrate into society as healthy, productive members.Celebrating 95 YearsTo celebrate this momentous occasion, Guiding Light Mission is hosting a series of events and activities throughout the year. In April, they launched a matching donation program, where all contributions made between April 1 and May 31 were matched dollar for dollar, up to $95,000. This year, the Mission has also expanded its programs and facilities to include a new focus on women’s recovery.To brand the milestone, a special 95th anniversary logo is featured on their website and social media profiles. And they also created a dedicated page highlighting their 95 years of charitable service to the Grand Rapids community.Additionally, they are sharing inspiring stories of recovery and transformation, highlighting the impact of their programs on individuals and families. The mission also unveiled new facilities, such as a gymnasium, to better serve the men in their program.
